Super 14 Predictions – Round 4

The Games and Predictions page with Rugbyoracle’s team and score predictions for Super 14, round 4.   This week there are 2 picks that run contrary to the favorites and I’ve agonised over the choices.  But then you know what they say, you’ve got to have chaos in your soul if you want to give birth to [...]

Reeg’s Rant – “Man Perm”

Well another weekend I still haven’t seen much ruggers.  Only caught the glimpses of the Tah’s match and was pretty pissed by the time I saw the Force match, so cant really add much light on that game.  It was all a blur of Cameron Shepherd and Nick “Man-Perm” Cummings.
The weekend started with an upset, [...]

Save the Cheerleader, Save the world – Hurricanes

Hurricanes take on their old rivals the Highlanders in what is bound to be a close clash.   Rugby Oracle has the Hurricanes winning by 2.  Both teams lost last week but Highlanders were out and out the better performers.  Hurricanes normally take a while to warm up in this competition, so it could go [...]

Super Trials and Kangaroo Courts

Last year I was taking in the results of the Trial games into my calculations for the Super 14 games-proper. Which I think judging by this years trial games is a mistake. Stormers beat Saracens 43-33 which tells us what? That northern hemisphere rugby is still really second division. Revelation? [...]

Super Rugby 2009!!

Another season of Super rugby is nearly upon us, people.  It’s time to fish out the team jerseys from the attic, give them a stretch (it’s bound to have shrunk a little), wash off last year’s blood stains and staple it back to your chest for the next 4 months.
I have updated the site a [...]

Predicting against the odds

In the interests of improving my prediction odds, I thought I might put the question out there:
What factors in the games below could have told us the winning team?
The background to this is as follows:
Looking at Super 14 2008, of the 25 out of 94 I got wrong (26.5% before you get your calculators out):

SA v NZ Trinations

The war of words has started already with Rugbyheaven shooting first with its gnarled attempt at upsetting the Saffer camp with talk of internal political strife and division while Sarugby.com have volleyed back with reference to paranoid all blacks landing in Cape town and security sweeps of a “small media contingent” and “two labourers“.  Meow.  [...]

Super 14 – Semi Two

Have the Aussies learnt a thing or two from the World cup?   Defence wins world cups and you don’t need a crowbar to read between the lines of Dick Muir’s recent statements that he might reckon the same goes for S14.
Sharks will be looking to defend well and build on their scrum dominance.  However, it [...]

100k on Crusaders

NZD 172,000 got lost on just 2 bets in NZ last weekend, according to Rugbyheaven.co.nz, when the Crusaders lost against the Highlanders.
One was on the crusaders at odds of 1.08 and another was on the double, Stormers\Crusaders.
TAB recorded their most profitable match since 1996.

Super 14 – Semi one

Crusaders get their home semi against the hurricanes.  Both are coming off losses from the previous week and will have something to prove.  Crusaders have been getting worse and worse but frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me if the conspiracy theorists were right and they’ve been underplaying.  One, it will give the canes a false sense [...]
