After week off in Honkers for the 7s, I have gone another week with next to no rugby.
A sad week for rugby, I have just read the shocking news that Shawn Mackay has died in a Durban hospital after fighting for his life all week in a coma. He was hit by an armed response vehicle in SA last week and finally came out of his coma over the weekend only for his condition to fall away and he died of a heart attack a couple of hours ago. I’m in a bit of a shock actually.
Terrible news for the Brumbies and Oz rugby community.
And the northern hemisphere has decided to scrap a number of the ELVs as well. Hopefully next time they will try before they buy instead of giving up without any effort.
Back to the S14s.
Crusaders won ugly again with a well needed victory over the Bulls and puts them in the semi finals race after a woeful start to the season. Even with Victor Matfield and Bryan Habana back for the Bulls, their travelling voodoo has seen another loss against opponents they should have beaten. The errors on both sides were horrific but the Bulls tried harder than the Crusaders to lose this match.
Force whipped the Reds, which was great, in a passionate game with a rivalry that is building each season. Little James O’Connor is turning into quite the player, hopefully he will hit puberty soon and put on a bit of weight.
Didn’t see any other games as I was confined to the couch after a mad Friday night, or should I say Saturday morning.
Sounds like the Sharks v Canes game was equally as ugly as the Crusaders with the statistician kept busy recording errors. Bloody Steyn kicked another drop goal from no mans land, great to see it in the game, but I wish it was a player I liked.
The Chiefs pulled a win from the fire after the Lions raced to an unsuspected lead of 10-29. Chiefs are bounding up the table with 5 straight now.
Lachy Turner scored a couple of great tries after some beautiful kicking from hand. Looks like the Tahs have found the best position for Beale as well, on the bench for most the game again. But they still don’t have a kicker from the spot.
The Brumbies finally had a win in SA, but still let the Cheetahs get 27 points, that must be their highest score this year. Would you believe that is the first home game the Cheetahs have had this season, round 8!
That’s a harsh draw. They still aren’t going to win a game though.
